"Walk the 38" now on the road

Walk the 38 walkers on the PiazzaWalk the 38 walkers on the PiazzaThe festivities to launch ‘Walk the 38’ and help celebrate 100 years of route 38 were fantastically well received over the weekend.

Three of the Arriva Heritage Fleet Routemasters on the PiazzaThree of the Arriva Heritage Fleet Routemasters on the PiazzaThree of Arriva London’s Heritage Fleet Routemasters were on the Piazza at London’s Covent Garden on Saturday, together with volunteers from Maggie’s and Arriva to get the Party underway.

There was a cake, balloons, bunting, music, dancing girls, and an introduction to the project from Peter Batty, the Commercial Director of Arriva London, who invited everyone to join in the celebrations, enjoy the fun and walk the route to raise money for Maggie’s, the cancer caring charity.

The Celebratory CakeThe Celebratory CakeAnyone who registered to "Walk the 38" was entered in a draw to win the services of one of the Arriva Heritage Routemasters for a day.

On Sunday, the celebrations took a different direction, with the three Routemasters going into service on route 38, and instead of taking fares, they asked passengers to donate a little something to the charity.

The K-type leaving VictoriaThe K-type leaving VictoriaThe Routemasters were accompanied by two guest buses (an RTW and an RTL),  and a special appearance of the only original K-type bus from the London Transport Museum, which did a complete tour of the route from Victoria to Clapton and back again.
