Arriva London team up with REME for June recruitment day
At Arriva, we are always looking for new ways to recruit high calibre applicants to fill roles in our every expanding business.
Over a period of time, Arriva PLC worked towards attaining accreditation via the Reserve Forces and Cadet Association (RFCA) through the signing of the Military Covenant and this was completed in November 2017. This further underlines the commitment that Arriva has to supporting current and ex-serviceman through the transition from military into a second career with Arriva.
So, a recent initiative by our Fleet Engineer Guy Engelmann, an ex-serviceman himself, tying up with REME (the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) to encourage Army personnel to join Arriva, was an exciting prospect.
The idea culminated in an open day held at MOD Lyneham, which we sponsored, where over 200 service personnel who plan to leave REME in the next six months were invited along to see what we and other multinational organisations have to offer for employment in the future.
The event, which was held in the new REME museum, started with an introduction by REME of the aim of the day, followed by a presentation from Guy of all we have to offer across the UK and Europe. Guy showed the participants that we have positions available throughout the UK in all types of roles with many in Engineering, an ideal match for many of the REME personnel.
Guy also explained that he had served with REME for 25 years, and on leaving had been recruited by us, and within five years had twice been promoted and was now Fleet Manager for Arriva London’s southern-area garages. He also introduced Brogan, again ex-army, who had joined us and was now promoted to Engineering Manager of our Enfield garage.
The event was a great success and we are looking forward to participating with REME in the future to maintain the relationship and recruit more excellent candidates.

Route 175 operates with 16 double-deck vehicles from our Barking garage, with a twelve-minute frequency during the day. Route 103 operates from our Grays garage with 14 buses, with an eight-minute daytime frequency.
Preparations are complete for our display entry in this year’s Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday. The Arriva London theme again this year is to celebrate the enormous contribution our staff make to charities through the Payroll Giving scheme. With over 1,000 staff supporting over 160 charities every week, and over £1,000,000 having been given in the last five years.
The buses, which were recently on display on the South Bank opposite the Houses of Parliament, will be seen throughout London and the City until November 12th, as a mark of respect for the sacrifices made by London’s service men and women, past and present.
Arriva London are proud, once again, to be the providers of the mode of transport to deliver London’s most original gastronomic road trip - the London restaurant festival’s Champagne Gourmet Odyssey.
Last week, Arriva London were invited to take part in the Older People’s Celebration Week across Barking and Dagenham.
